Carrying a Fairytale

A Prenatal Series by Pynnderella

I gave birth to my daughter alone in my bathtub while my eight-year-old son slept peacefully on the couch.

I never imagined that would become part of my story.

Neither did I imagine walking into a doctor’s appointment only to learn I was already months pregnant after believing I was “one and done.”

Uhhh… what do you mean there’s a fetus in my uterus? And what do you mean it already has fingers, toes, and a spine? What do you mean YOU MISSED IT IN PRIOR VISITS?! And WHAT THE HELL do you mean do I want termination or prenatal care?

I wasn’t planning a pregnancy. This unexpected pregnancy completely put my car in park. I wasn’t even in a relationship anymore. My boyfriend and I had already broken up, and life had been moving in a completely different direction. So imagine that phone call. We were both under the impression that pregnancy wasn’t even a possibility—he actually believed he was sterile after a stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis. And that belief shaped everything about how unexpected this moment truly was. Because, believe me we were having a ball... literally. HA!

So, when I walked into Kaiser and found out I was months pregnant, it didn’t feel like joy, but more like shock. Like my entire life had paused and reloaded without asking me.

At the time, I was already raising my son, my “one and done” baby. He was eight and a half years old, and for almost a decade I had fully believed that chapter of my life was complete, especially since I was still single… not married. I had made peace with it. Built my rhythm around it. Built my identity around it. I was literally half way done. And then everything shifted.

Because of my prior health concerns, I was thrown a curve ball I didn’t fully know how to articulate in real time. There was fear. There was denial. There were conversations about what I thought my life was supposed to look like versus what was now in front of me…In me, rather.

We even attempted to terminate. But something unexpected happened during that period of time. While I was becoming physically unwell, the pregnancy continued, even stronger. Persistent.

He even said he hated me when the termination ultimately failed. Mr. Evil idiot kept asking me to continue trying to terminate despite the fetus getting stronger while my health declined trying.

I’m like…. You do know you thought you thought you could only shoot blanks, right?

I remember hitting a point where I had to slow everything down and ask myself a very different question, not “what did I plan?” but “what is actually happening?” That shift didn’t happen overnight, it was happening in layers.

Anyway…. I finished the rest of my pregnancy empowered by God, feeling x looking gorgeous af, heading to and from my appointments. Eating well. High energy. With no need left unmet.

There was a point where I stopped fighting the reality and started observing it instead. And from that space, I began making different choices, not out of pressure, but presence.

I started focusing on my health. My environment. My support system. I leaned into prenatal care more intentionally. I explored prenatal chiropractic care, acupuncture, nutrition x meal preps, birth preparation, and built a birth support team that aligned with a fairytale experience I created. Through this series you’ll get a feel dive into those appointments and preparations in detail.

I documented as much of my journey as possible after finding out, through what later became Carryin' a Fairytale, my prenatal series documenting my unexpected pregnancy, prenatal care, birth preparation, and everything in between.

Somewhere in my process of documenting this journey, something softened. I stopped seeing my baby as an interruption and more like a reality I had to move with and not against.

I also had to have a very real conversation with my son. That moment was one of the most emotional parts of this entire journey. He had been my only child for eight years. My whole world. My best friend. Telling him grounded everything. What I got from him was something I didn’t expect at all: Curiosity. And eventually, support.

He became my little companion through this entire experience. Instead of just making appointments and bringing him along, when I booked prenatal acupuncture x chiropractic appointments I also booked him pediatric appointments, so we did all my holistic prenatal care together. He asked questions and adjusted his own way. Growing through it with me instead of apart from me.

And that shifted everything again. What I thought would be a solitary, overwhelming experience slowly turned into something shared. We didn’t just plan, we lived.

Looking back now, I can see how much of this journey has been about surrendering control without losing intention. I didn’t expect to be here. But I am. And I’ve built something around it… carefully, intentionally, moment by moment. Not the life I planned. But the life I’m in.

This is a truly a series for the dope moms, the girl moms, the cool moms, the boy moms, the moms of new big brothers, and all the moms screaming  phuck you to the punks we accidentally, on purpose, procreated with.

It’s for the moms x supporters, not the nosy family members, hatin commity, cowards, fake supporters, or monitoring spirits .

Take what you love and leave the rest.

Holler.

Love, Pynnderella.
